Spain’s Crown Princess Leonor recently reached an important stage related to growing up. It is a milestone familiar to many teenagers, namely Princess Leonor of Asturias was photographed for the first time at the wheel of a passenger car.

18-year-old Leonor’s first time as a driver aroused admiration, and the heir to the crown was by no means driving alone. Leonor had her little sister Sofía sitting in the assistant seat. In the back seat sat the reigning King Felipe’s mother, the Queen Sofia and the king’s wife, Queen Letizia.

Looking confident and smiling, Leonor transported prestigious passengers through the streets of Palma de Mallorca during the royal family’s holiday trip. The Spanish magazine Hola says that the ladies of the royal family left the center of Palma on board Leonor, where they had, among other things, gone shopping and walking.

The riding of the heir to the crown caused an uproar among the locals.

In Spain, you can get a driver’s license at the age of 18. Crown Princess Leonor turned 18 last October and has obtained her driver’s license at the Zaragoza Military Academy. However, one detail in Leonor’s driving attracted the attention of the Spanish.

In Spain, novice drivers must use a badge with the letter L. Such a Seat brand car driven by the crown princess was not found.

The marking indicating the newly started driver must be used for one year after obtaining the driver’s license.

There were also authoritative people in the back seat. Queens Sofía and Letizia sat aboard Leonor. AOP

This is a statutory provision, the non-compliance of which can be punished with a fine of 100 euros, according to Diario AS, among others.

However, there are some exceptions that could explain Leonor driving without that L marking. According to the Spanish newspaper, the ID does not need to be placed on the back of the car, if the person who acquired the driver’s license previously had a moped license or a light motorcycle license.

As the future queen, Leonor has been immortalized as leading a very ordinary everyday life for her age. In April, she was photographed in Madrid having a night out like any other 18-year-old.

On her 18th birthday, Leonor took part in a celebration ceremony in front of the Spanish Parliament where she swore her allegiance to the country’s constitution. The ceremony confirmed that the princess is ready to inherit the crown after her father.

According to the constitution, Leonor can now take over the throne immediately if her father has to abdicate due to death or incapacity. Leonor becomes Spain’s first female monarch since 1868.
