the SPA organizes an open house weekend to adopt a pet

Like every year, the Strasbourg SPA is organizing an open house weekend on June 4 and 5. Objective: to collect a substantial financial windfall and find new adoptive families for their boarders.

The lull was short-lived. With the pandemic and the confinements, the cages of the SPA of Strasbourg had been deserted, rather good news. Alas, the world before is back and with it, the abandonment of animals.

In Strasbourg, plus a free place in the premises of the association for the protection of animals. 60 dogs, 150 cats and about thirty NAC (new pets). So the team of workers and volunteers are counting more than ever on this weekend of open doors on June 4th and 5th.

“The objective is to earn a little money, explains Catherine Bronner, the indefatigable and tireless director of the Strasbourg SPA. We sell food and then the volunteers offer their creations, it’s important for our operation”.

The opportunity also to bring in the public, the curious of course, but also future adopters. “These open doors give us visibility and then a first contact with people. There is generally no adoption that weekend, but first meetings that can lead later”adds Catherine Bronner.

No typical profiles among the boarders, it goes from Jack Russel through the mastiff to the Malinois shepherd. No age either but still the same story, they were abandoned. “There are crazy stories like this 14-year-old girl who found a husky on the Good Corner.” In a home, impossible for the teenager to keep him, he is now part of the big family of the Strasbourg SPA.

The doors are open, so it’s all weekend at the refuge 7 rue de l’Entenloch in Strasbourg. Gastronomy, good humor, yelps and meows guaranteed.
