At different times in the USSR it was possible to buy completely different alcoholic drinks: in addition to vodka, wine, cognac and other familiar alcohol, exotic rum, whiskey and gin were produced. And in the Soviet Union they invented their own drinks: from low-alcohol mash to the legendary stool.
At the same time, many republics of a large country had their own proprietary brands in the alcohol line. Good example – Moldovan “Strugurash”. It was called cognac, but in fact it was not: the production technologies of the Moldovan drink and real cognac did not coincide – “Strugurash” was made from wine production waste. In general, Moldova produced excellent wines, which Soviet citizens valued along with Georgian and Crimean ones.
Many people who lived in the Soviet Union note that they bought Strugurash mainly to get drunk. The taste of this drink was not the most pleasant, but the 40% strength and cheap price – in the 80s it was four rubles – made this alcohol popular among the population.
“The taste, as I remember now, was not entirely pleasant. It was difficult to drink in its pure form, and “Strugurash” came in a little hard. But to dilute it with something is just right!” – recalls one of the network users.
