Compulsory civil liability insurance provides that the insurer covers the expenses of damage to life or health caused to the visitors of the holiday, which are related to medical treatment, temporary incapacity for work, loss of ability to work, death. The additional insurer has also taken care of the participants by insuring their lives and injuries, such as fractures, dislocations, where the amount per insured is 5,000 euros. However, it should be borne in mind that the insurer will not cover expenses in the event of food poisoning, the desire to treat illness or repair teeth, take care of inflammation or combat chronic fatigue.
Latvian legislation stipulates compulsory civil liability insurance for events, but the minimum limits are set at just over 14,000 euros. As not all major measures can be controlled, insurers advise the government to consider a significant increase in the minimum limits set ten years ago for security reasons. “In measures where [piedalās] more than a thousand participants, the minimum limit must be 100,000 euros. If something happens so that there is no problem that nothing can be paid out, “says Jānis Abāšins, the head of the Latvian Insurers’ Association.
Insurers do not have precise statistics on the amount of premiums written for events, only that it is seasonal, as insurance is required in summer and Christmas. Most compensation is paid for damage to movable and immovable property, damaged property and equipment, damaged cars. The amount of damage is most often low, but compensation for personal injury is very rarely paid.
