Security sources confirmed to Sky News Arabia on Thursday that the son of MP Muhammad Raad, head of the Hezbollah parliamentary bloc, was killed in an Israeli raid in southern Lebanon.
Security sources reported to Sky News Arabia on Thursday that 5 Hezbollah members were killed in an Israeli raid on Beit Yahoun in the Bint Jbeil district in southern Lebanon.
Agence France-Presse quoted a source close to Muhammad Raad’s family as saying, “Abbas Raad was killed as a result of an Israeli bombing that targeted a house in southern Lebanon, while he was inside it with a number of party members in a house in the village of Beit Yahoun.”
The Israeli army said that Air Force fighter planes attacked Hezbollah’s infrastructure on Lebanese territory.
He added: “Israeli aircraft and army forces raided a cell that attempted to launch missiles into Israeli territory, and another squad opened fire on our forces.”
The border region in southern Lebanon has witnessed a worsening military escalation between Israel and Hezbollah since the Hamas movement launched an unprecedented attack on the Hebrew state on October 7, which responded with devastating bombing and a ground operation in the besieged Gaza Strip.
Since the start of the cross-border escalation, more than 100 people have been killed in Lebanon, the majority of whom were Hezbollah fighters, and 14 civilians, including three journalists, according to a tally prepared by Agence France-Presse.
For its part, the Israeli authorities reported that nine people were killed, including three civilians.
The Israeli raid on Beit Yahoun came hours after it was announced that an agreement had been reached between Israel and Hamas, according to which the movement would release 50 hostages of those it had detained during its attack on Israel, which in turn would release Palestinian prisoners, provided that a four-day truce would take effect in the Gaza Strip, on the first day. An actual step towards calm after more than six weeks of war.
