The solution to the young woman’s murder mystery may be at hand – The police reveal information about a new tip –

Who decides to attack the innocent postman? The crime commissioner of the Central Criminal Police (KRP) has thought about it Olli Töyräs for a long time.

– The act has been sudden, and has not started in any way from the victim’s behavior or activities.

Töyräs has been the investigation director of the Myyrmäki mail murder since spring 2023. Ever since the investigation was transferred from the East Uusimaa police to the KRP. It’s been almost two years since the death itself, and the perpetrator is still missing.

Now Töyräs is telling Iltalehte new information about the exceptionally dark crime. It was an incredible coincidence that there was an eyewitness to the killer’s act.

The resident noticed a special sight

Do you believe that the Myyrmäki postal murder will still be solved, Crime Commissioner Olli Töyräs? Pete Anikari

A man dressed in dark attacked a 24-year-old mail delivery woman in Vantaa’s Myyrmäki on November 17, 2022.

The authorities were on the scene quickly, but the perpetrator still managed to escape from the scene.

The chain of events in the night of Vantaa lasted less than 10 minutes, but claimed the life of one innocent person.

It was almost four-thirty in the morning when the resident of Myyrmäentie 6 drew attention to a vague passer-by.

A figure dressed in dark was walking aimlessly in the yard of the apartment buildings in Vantaa.

It was late, and the resident could well have gone to sleep. However, he remained following the man who behaved in a peculiar way.

Meeting

The identity of the perpetrator who attacked the young woman in the darkness of November is still a mystery. Pete Anikari

At the same time as the man was spinning in the yard, a young postwoman came out of the D staircase of the apartment building.

Until then, the morning work went on like many nights before. A 24-year-old woman was handing out magazines on her familiar route in Myyrmäki. He was pushing a mail cart ahead of him when he encountered a nocturnal wanderer.

The meeting with the man who was slouching in the yard was quick. There was no obvious dispute. The man did not demand to enter the stairs, and there was no loud verbal abuse or any other argument between them.

Still, the man attacked the postman.

The resident was still looking out the window when the unseen crime took place.

Astalo

The investigation of the mail murder came to the desk of Olli Töyräksen, KRP’s crime district commissioner, in the spring of 2023. It was transferred to him from the local police in the spring of 2023 due to resources. KRP has better opportunities to investigate long-term cases. Pete Anikari

The violence was brutal. Töyräs now says that the man used something longer than his hand in the act. The woman, clearly smaller than the perpetrator, had no chance to defend herself.

A resident called about an attack in front of the front door of an apartment building. The time of the emergency call was 03:32. The young woman’s suffering continued at the same time.

Then another neighbor arrived at the adjacent garbage. This stopped the horrific violence and the perpetrator fled the scene. He ran from the house looking to the left, in the direction of Louhela station.

Since then, the man has not been found. The astalo used in the act is also missing.

The postman later died in hospital. The police are investigating the act as a murder.

Innocent bystander

In November 2022, candles were brought to the yard of the apartment building in memory of the victim, who had just turned 24. Matti Matikainen

The bereaved do not remain silent.

That’s what it says on the room board in Töyräksen’s study. He got it while working in the violent crime unit of the Helsinki police.

Now the room board is in Jokiniemi, Vantaa, in KRP’s premises. It reminds us that even after death, the victim of a homicide can point the police in the right direction in the investigation. Human relationships, online behavior and money matters are carefully blamed.

– Finding cause-and-effect relationships that explain the act, Töyräs says.

The Myyrmäki postal murder is in a certain way an exception, even if the initial data could indicate otherwise.

The cruel act happened on the young woman’s birthday. The victim was also active in his own hobbies and interests.

The police are aware of all the woman’s background. This time, they do not provide an explanation for the dark series of events. The perpetrator is probably not from the victim’s close circle.

– There is no bitter ex, grudge or anything else in this person’s life history that would point in the direction of the perpetrator.

The victim was an innocent bystander.

Töyräs does not describe the act as exceptional. It’s challenging.

– No reason, explanation or motive can be found.

– Now we have to think about who we are looking for here.

Delusional factor?

The brutal assault in Myyrmäki caught the attention of crime district commissioner Olli Töyräksen right at the time of the event in November 2022. His first thought was that it was possibly a motiveless crime. Pete Anikari

Who is the man, where did he come from and where was he going? Why did he wander on Myyrmäentie, in the yard of the apartment buildings?

The police have asked these questions a lot. Even though the area is close to the train stations, you won’t accidentally get lost on the footpath.

KRP has also used expert help to profile the author. The end result is that the murder of the postman in Myyrmäki is most likely a completely random act. One that any Finn could fall victim to.

– I consider it likely that the perpetrator was delusional. Either due to mental health problems or, for example, drugs, says Töyräs.

– Someone must have paid attention to his behavior before or after the act.

Töyräs believes that the brutal act has also affected the perpetrator afterwards. And someone else must have noticed it too.

The police still need observations and tips from the public.

– Those tips have arrived and I hope for more of them. Even a small hint can be very meaningful.

Samples received

The work has been asked for public comments from the beginning. They have also been obtained in abundance. Matti Matikainen

Töyräs emphasizes that the Central Criminal Police does not expect a solution except as a gift from heaven. The murder investigation has not been waiting in a pile among the others, but the police have continuously conducted new investigations to find out the woman’s fate.

Investigators are still going through surveillance camera images and are looking for a man in dark clothes, about 170-180 centimeters tall, and are checking public tips.

– This is the stage of criminal investigation where detective stories or crime series are not made.

There are two sure eyewitness observations about the perpetrator. One of the witnesses died during the investigation. Pete Anikari

Samples from the victim’s clothing are important evidence. They are now running all the time in KRP’s laboratory.

– We have studied the samples and compared them to many people, says Töyräs.

So maybe the room board is right after all. This time, the victim’s clothes can tell something about the perpetrator.

Töyräs does not specify what kind of samples have been obtained. There is no sexual crime involved in the act.

It is known that the perpetrator is a man.

Half a dozen suspects

In total, half a dozen factors have been “adjusted” to blood production.

In the early days of the investigation, two men were even imprisoned. Surveillance camera footage and other evidence ultimately proved that neither of them could be the perpetrator.

Töyräs is not going to collect a DNA sample from all the men living in Myyrmäki. He admits that they still observe and take into account what and what kind of crimes happened in the surrounding areas before and after the Myyrmäki attack.

– I don’t mean that there is a serial killer on the loose. But that is unlikely to be the perpetrator’s first or last crime.

Valkeakoski’s murderer-rapist is one of the well-known perpetrators of murder, whom the police have linked to the events in Myyrmäki. Based on the preliminary investigation, a 15-year-old girl was brutally murdered in Valkeakoski Tuomas Salminen however, is not a postman killer.

A breakthrough is expected

A large number of Finnish homicides are solved very quickly. At best, the perpetrator will be caught on the spot.

The preliminary investigation is full of hopes, expectations and disappointments, says Olli Töyräs. There have been many hopeful moments in the investigation of the postman’s murder, but no breakthrough has yet been made. Pete Anikari

The murder of the postman in Myyrmäki is still not the only dark murder in Finland. Raisa Räisänen, Kai-Pekka Savolainen and a Chinese woman from Tampere have all died as victims of a suspected homicide. The perpetrators have not yet been held accountable for their actions.

On the other hand, many cases that have been dark for a long time are finally solved.

The long-term work of the laboratory was the key to solving the hermit’s death in Ilmajoki. The estranged man’s murder was solved nearly four years after the crime. At that time, the KRP laboratory informed the police of the expected news: the DNA sample taken in connection with the investigation of the second crime matches the DNA sample of the cigarette butt found in the victim’s stove.

Töyräs is also waiting for a similar breakthrough.

– Yes, I’m waiting for that hit. But it can be anything: a call from the laboratory, that one audience tip or something else entirely.

The police need tips

KRP is still hoping for anyone who may know about the case to contact the police. Tips can be sent to the email address [email protected] or by phone to 0295 418 622.
