Maria Mendiola died in Madrid surrounded by her family members. The cause of death was not specified.
Spanish singer Maria Mendiola, best known for the 1980s pop group Baccara, has died at the age of 69. This was announced yesterday by her teammate Christina Sevilla in Instagram.
“I can only thank you for all the love that you gave me,” Sevilla wrote on the social network.

Maria Mendiola and singer Maite Mateos teamed up in 1977 when they were both flamenco dancers on Fuerteventura. At first they performed songs of other bands, and the song Yes Sir, I Can Boogie brought them the greatest fame.
Also the group Baccara performed at Eurovision in 1978, representing Luxembourg.
In the early 80s, the duo broke up due to creative differences, after which Mateos began performing with other partners. After a short break from work, Mendiola also returned to the stage and, like her former partner, tried to use the Baccara brand, performing with other vocalists.
In 2011, Mendiola began collaborating with Mateos’ former partner, Cristina Sevilla, and as a result, it was this duo that continued to tour under the name Baccara until recently.
