On Friday, September 11, the Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Center will open the solo exhibition of the artist Ieva Caruka “Black and White Met”, the representatives of the art center informed.
In this exhibition, Ieva Caruka’s story is about a woman as a carrier of the Eastern European genetic code. “Nowadays, the big role of a woman – to be a mother, a wife – is losing relevance. The heroines of the artist, like the fabulous bird Phoenix, shrink to ashes in their unfulfilled sexuality to be reborn in a new image, in new Goddesses. The artist expresses these feelings in the theme of dance, where sensuality overflows in the dialogue between women and men. Dance is also a symbol of fall and flight, which is what life itself is all about, ”says the exhibition application.
The exhibition will feature not only the works of Ieva Caruka made in the artist’s studio, but also a voluminous mural she will create especially for the exhibition in the Rothko Center.
“I write my great world stories with lines, color contrasts and collages. When emotions hit a high wave, I invented a game where I am a director and a sculptor.
Standing in front of a black-painted canvas, with white paint on the brush I cut off all the excess from the black. It’s an exciting process.
It is black and white that help to see something important in the world – what we do not see in the colorful bustle of everyday life, ”says the artist Ieva Caruka about her works.
The exhibition will be opened within the framework of the Daugavpils ReStart music and art festival program. The exhibition is open to visitors from 11 September to 25 October at the Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Center.
