The Solemnity of San José, which is celebrated every year on March 19, will be moved this year to March 20.
This date change occurs when the usual day of this solemnity coincides with a Sunday of Lent.
The Roman Missal establishes that, “because of its peculiar importance, Sunday only yields its celebration to the solemnities and feasts of the Lord; but the Sundays of Advent, Lent and Easter have precedence over all the feasts of the Lord and over all solemnities”.

Furthermore, he points out that “the solemnities that coincide on these Sundays are transferred to the following Mondayunless there is a coincidence with Palm Sunday or with the Sunday of the Resurrection of the Lord”.
This 2023, March 19 coincides with the Fourth Sunday of Lent. Therefore, the Solemnity of San José is moved to Monday, March 20.
It should be noted that during the Lenten period only two solemnities are celebrated: Saint Joseph and the Annunciation of the Lord.

For the celebration of these solemnities, the liturgical norms indicate that the ornaments should not be red, but purple, as corresponds to the time of Lent.
In addition, during the Holy Mass the singing of the Gloria is allowed, but not the Alleluia.
