The Snow Society by JA Bayona opens this Friday in cinemas throughout Spain. The film, which has accumulated 13 nominations for the 2024 Goya Awards to be held on February 10, is one of the most critically acclaimed. Carlos Boyero described the film as “the best thing he has done” the director of other successful feature films such as The Impossible or The Orphanage.

The film tells the story of the Uruguayan plane that crashed in the Andes in 1972 and whose survivors remained isolated for 72 days, in a critical situation, until they were rescued. A story that was already portrayed by a production titled ¡Viven! and released in 1993, and which in its new version has been chosen by the Spanish Film Academy to represent our country at the 2024 Oscar gala. In addition to the possibility of traveling to Hollywood, Bayona’s film has been nominated for ‘Best Foreign Language Film’ at the Critics Choice Awards, which will take place on January 14.

About a month before the celebration of the aforementioned critics’ awards, the blockbuster hits Spanish cinemas. The Snow Society lands this Friday, December 15, in 110 theaters throughout the country. A hundred cinemas where from today you can enjoy this film that lasts two hours and 24 minutes and stars Enzo Vogrincic, Agustín Pardella, Matías Recalt and Tomas Wolf, among other performers.
Thus, the film will pass through up to a dozen cinemas in the city of Madrid, eight in Barcelona and practically one in each provincial capital, with some exceptions such as Tenerife or the four Galician provincial capitals in which, for the moment, it seems that The film cannot be enjoyed on the big screen.
A special screening will take place, however, in the capital where the Embajadores cinemas will host a discussion with the director of the film after this Saturday’s screening, scheduled for 4:45 p.m.

The production inspired by the tragedy of the Andes will remain in Spanish cinemas for the next few weeks and will be released on the Netflix streaming platform in the last days of the Christmas celebrations.
