Xiaomi 12, realme GT 2 Pro, OnePlus 10, Motorola Edge 30 Pro – what do they have in common? Of course, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. We already know today that it will be at least as hot as its predecessor. It bodes badly for fans of flagships in 2022.
Nothing deterred you from buying a flagship in 2021 like temperatures under load. Overheating is the domain of basically every top phone, not including new iPhones. I had a problem with this myself in the Galaxy S21, which eventually led me to change to a middle-class, and then to an ex-flagship with Snapdragon 865. And I already know that in 2022 nothing will change for me.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is a very hot processor
Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 shines in benchmarks, sometimes even breaking the magic border for fans of numbers. Over 1 million points in AnTuTu sounds great. So what, since after a few minutes the performance of the system is throttled by temperature. The slimmer the flagship smartphone, the worse for the user. Especially the demanding user.

During the presentation, Qualcomm assured that this time he managed to “grasp” the hot temper of the new system. This was to be helped by the new architecture, 4 nm lithography and only a 10% increase in performance compared to its predecessor. He wasn’t convinced from the beginning leakster IceUniversewhose tests showed the opposite. And I have no doubts who to believe in this situation.
An example is Motorola Edge X30that is – if I did not miss something, the first phone equipped with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. Under heavy load, the smartphone heats up nice – if for a few thousand zlotys you wanted to buy a lagging hand warmer. 2022 is the year of very hot flagships again.
I am very curious how the flagships with the Global version of the software will perform in the tests. We will have to wait for this. The premieres will take off for good in March 2022 and then we will find out who did it best. I already have my candidate and in my opinion least throttling we will find at realme. Reasons for suspicion? Take a look here:

Flagships do not have to be the best choice for players
I will not even try to say that buying a top model in the coming months is a mistake. There will certainly be many users who will be delighted with them. Phones such as Xiaomi 12, realme GT 2 Pro, OnePlus 10 Pro and others, of which there will be dozens, consist of more than just a processor.
Do you take a lot of photos? Then you will probably be delighted with how well the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 handles processing them – and at what pace it does. Are you not an avid mobile gamer? While browsing the web, Social Media and watching movies or series, each of them will probably stay pleasantly cool.

Worse, however, if you process photos from your smartphone for private use, edit a short video (whether for yourself, for your family or maybe for Reddit), or you want to play the latest titles on the phenomenal AMOLED panels in flagships – then you are screwed. Perhaps such a niche does not exist, or maybe it is only me – I cannot rule it out.
It seems to me, however, that the flagships are going in a slightly incomprehensible direction. If you identify with the user profile described above, you can only choose gaming beasts. These, however, do not go well with the tie and jacket, and I like to wear both. And it seems to me that ultimately I will not be left with anything except the iPhone.
