The SMS signs an agreement to improve the quality of life of patients with advanced cancer – Cartagena News

The Mabs Cancer Support Foundation and the Murcian Health Service will carry out activities aimed at patients and their families

The Murcian Health Service (SMS) and the Mabs Cancer Support Foundation have signed a collaboration agreement aimed at improving the quality of life of advanced-stage cancer patients, as well as their caregivers. The agreement has a duration of two years, extendable up to four.

The manager of the Murcian Health Service, Francisco José Ponce, stressed that “the well-being of both patients and families in a phase as difficult as this is one of the SMS care priorities”, and added that “the development of this agreement will undoubtedly be a very important improvement in the final phase of his life”.

The Mabs Cancer Support Foundation will carry out the organization of meetings between patients and relatives for the exchange of experiences and knowledge in areas I, II, IV and VIII, although it may be extended to other areas. In this way, they will be able to benefit from a wide support network.

Volunteer actions

In addition, the foundation will carry out its volunteering activity with this type of patient in the area that it has been doing since its inception: accompaniment to consultation for patients who do not have a family, translation service for those who do not speak Spanish, domestic assistance and information on the palliative care offered by the Murcian Health Service.

The Mabs Cancer Support Foundation was born as an associative movement in 1999 in Los Alcázares by five breast cancer patients of foreign origin residing in the municipality. In 2017, the association became a foundation, and currently carries out its volunteer activity throughout the Mediterranean coast, in addition to having charity shops for fundraising.

This organization also provides transportation to the hospital or clinic, medical and mobility equipment, including hospital beds, corrugated mattresses, wheelchairs, walkers, and other personal aids.
