The Smashing Pumpkins Seek New Guitarist as Jeff Schroeder Leaves Band After 16 Years

At the beginning of January, the American band – known for the hits ‘1979’, ‘Today’ and ‘Cherub Rock’ – announced via social media that it had room for an extra guitarist. The group posted a job posting online for “anyone who might be interested.” In October 2023, guitarist Jeff Schroeder announced that he would be resigning after sixteen years. “Although it was a very difficult decision, I have decided to leave the band to make some space to explore a different path,” he wrote on Instagram at the time.

Schroeder’s former position is therefore highly coveted. More than 10,000 people have already applied. “Eight people are working full-time to vet everyone,” it said on Instagram. The rush to find a replacement is therefore great. This summer, The Smashing Pumpkins will embark on a European tour, followed by a series of American concerts with Green Day. The band is also moving to our country. On June 30, frontman Billy Corgan, guitarist James Iha, drummer Jimmy Chamberlin and the new guitarist will perform at Live is Live.
