The global economic situation also affects the smartphone market, which experienced an unprecedented decline in the final quarter of 2022 compared to the same time in 2021.
In the period from October to December 2022, 300.3 million smartphones were sold, which is 11.3% less than in the same period in 2021. In total, 18.3% of the total 2022 sales were sold in the last quarter of the previous year. The reduction has affected all major smartphone brands.
Most phones were sold in the last quarter Apple – 72.3 million units, followed in second place Samsung with 58.2 million. In the case of Apple, the decline compared to the last quarter of 2021 was 14.9%, and for Samsung 15.6%. The biggest drop was experienced by Xiaomi, which is in third place with 33.2 million phones sold, but the decrease was 26.3%.
In total, 1.21 billion smartphones were sold in 2022. Meanwhile, a year earlier they were 1.36 billion. The Samsung brand managed to sell the most in the previous year, reaching 260.9 million units, which is 21.6% of the market. In second place is Apple with 226.4 million, occupying 18.8%. Accordingly, here a decrease of 4.1% and 4%. In third place again is Oppo with 153.1 million smartphones sold and a 22.7% annual decrease in sales. Then follow the same Oppo and Vivo.
In addition to the challenges of the economic situation, device life has increased in recent years, meaning that people change their phones less often. This again forces manufacturers to rethink the range of module offers, as well as sellers to think of new ways to put them into circulation.
