The small crowns will play medal matches in the U18 WC, after beating the USA in the quarterfinals last night. Carl Lindbom became a great hero in the goal that saved over 30 shots.
Tonight they were again up against a tough opponent, already in the quarter finals they would face a really good USA. But the team showed strong morale and that despite the setbacks, they are one of the tournament’s best teams.
Mattias Hävelid gave Sweden the lead in powerplay already after three minutes, which became the only goal in the first period.
In others, the United States would equalize, even in powerplay. But Luleå’s Fabian Lysell regained the lead for Sweden just 43 seconds later.
After that, the United States was not allowed in again. The same Lysell extended the lead at the beginning of the third period before Oliver Moberg killed the match by making it 4-1 with six minutes left.
The United States got a reduction puck, but they did not get closer than that. Carl Lindbom in the Swedish goal made a very good effort and saved 31 of 33 shots and paved the way for the Swedish victory.
Now a new meeting with Canada awaits in the semifinals, where you get a chance for revenge after the group game. That match will be played on Wednesday night starting at 23.00.
