Slovak volleyball players recorded their first victory at the European Championships in 2021.
In their fourth C-group meeting in Zadar, Croatia, they defeated Switzerland 3: 1 on Tuesday and kept the chance to advance from the group. They will play the next match after a day off on Thursday, when at 5 pm they will play in the last match in the group against Belarus.
The Slovaks lost the first set at 21:25, but then improved the game. They were particularly successful in serving, pushing their opponents off the net after him. In the dramatic third set, the Slovaks lost 14:17, but with an excellent conclusion they turned it in their favor.
By winning the first three points in the tournament, the Slovaks moved to the 5th place in front of the Swiss in the table and a decisive battle for promotion awaits them. He will guarantee them any victory.

The Slovaks led 8: 5 in the beginning, but later the score was equalized and a decision was made in the final, in which the Swiss bounced from 20:20 to 24:20 thanks to the Slovaks’ mistakes and turned the second set. The Slovaks switched to higher speeds before the second set and clearly dominated. Palgutová and Abrhámová came on the board, after the block of Pencová they led the Slovaks 8: 4, after the block and the leg of Palgutová already 14: 7, later even by ten points 20:10. In the end, they won 25:14.
The introduction of the third set did not develop well for the Slovaks, they lost 1: 5, after two aces Krišková was equalized 5: 5. In the second half of the set, the Slovaks led Pencova’s block at 16:13, but the Swiss leveled at 16:16. Before the end, the Slovaks got into the blockbuster 22:17 and finally took the lead 2: 1.
The Swiss took risks in the fourth set and it worked out for a long time, leading 12: 6 and 16:11. Coach Fenoglio took a break and the Slovaks managed to return to the game. They leveled at 17:17 and in the dramatic conclusion decided their victory by three points from 22:22.

Barbora Koseková, Slovak recorder: “Thank God we won, it was crucial. It was probably not the most beautiful volleyball, but we are happy for the result. We are fighting and I prefer that we did it. ”
Jaroslava Pencová, smečiarka SR: “We started badly, we feel we are not playing perfectly. We played under more pressure than against the Italians. This was shown in the first set. In the second we were concentrated, we did not allow drama. We made mistakes in the fourth set, we were nervous, but we managed it. ”

The Turkish volleyball players also succeeded in the fifth match at the European Championship 2021. In Tuesday’s D-group match in Cluj, they won 3-0 over the Netherlands and penetrated the final to the final with a balance of 5-0, losing only one set during the championship so far. Even before the mutual match, the Dutch women also had a certain participation in the elimination phase.
With a 3-0 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina, they sealed the Belgian advance. Along with them, volleyball players from Serbia and Russia also qualified from the A-group.
Four teams from each of the four groups will advance to the round of 16.
