Slovak hockey players could open the score of the meeting in the 5th minute. František Dej and Kamil Rohaľ escaped in the weakening, and the latter only hit the Swiss goalkeeper Ewan Huet in a 100% chance. A few seconds later, a similar situation happened again. Andrej Párička didn’t pass perfectly to Ondrej Marun in the break, but then he got the puck and sent it into the post. The increasing activity of the Slovaks brought the opening goal in the 12th minute. Leo Eperješi’s shot trickled into the net by Daniel Alexander Jenčko. The Swiss equalized in the 16th minute. Kevin Zürcher took advantage of the inaccuracy in the opponent’s play, whose shot fell behind Samuel Urban’s back with a swing. At the end of the first period, the Slovakian goalkeeper faced a free kick by Leo Braillard, but made a successful save.

In the second act, goals were scored only in power-ups. The first three expulsions did not change the score, but after a strictly assessed offensive foul by Adam Cedz, the Swiss prevailed. In the 34th minute, Rafael Meier found a deflected puck in front of the open goal and didn’t give Urban a chance from close range. A minute later, however, it was Cedzo who answered. The Slovakian attacker, with a numerical advantage, excellently processed Jakub Chromiak’s shot pass from the blue line, turned around in the area in front of the goal and put the puck into the net.

At the beginning of the third period, the Slovak players could complain about inaccurate passing in their own defensive zone. The puck landed on the stick of a free Janis Embacher, but he was picked up by the attentive Urban in a great opportunity. In the 50th minute, shortly after a weakened defense, Maruna went on a solo escape, but he lacked speed and his shot ended up on Huet. The final minutes of regular time brought both sides an effort to decide the duel, but the resolution came only in overtime. Dej performed a successful individual action, passed to the uncovered Cedz, who opened the net with a quick shot. Canada became the winner of Group A after a 3-0 triumph over Sweden. Both teams were already certain of progressing to the semi-finals before the meeting.
