The Ministry stated that the operation of the swimming pool violated the law and the increased presence of radioactive elements in the water was hidden from the public.

“It is unfortunate that the relevant environmental departments and the Slovak Environmental Inspectorate have not acted in this matter in the past. Violation of regulations and valid laws in Podhájská has become a long-term phenomenon, “the Ministry of the Environment pointed out.

The operator had to falsify the permit
The Slovak Environmental Inspectorate has now confirmed that the authorities have banned pumping water from a geothermal well and using it in swimming pools. The authorization to draw water from a geothermal well expired in 1994, and the swimming pool has since been able to draw it illegally. The authorities imposed a fine of almost 129 thousand euros (3.3 million crowns) on Geo Termál, which operates the swimming pool.
–
According to the inspection, the operator of the swimming pool should have falsified the permit to pump water. “The police are already investigating the suspicion of a crime,” the inspectorate said. The management of the swimming pool distances itself from all suspicions. The swimming pool is now closed.

From May 1992 to September 1994, Geo Termál had a temporary permit to distribute to the pools part of the water it had previously used in the greenhouse. After cleaning and cooling, she could discharge it into the Liska stream.
–
“The permit expired and Geo Termál submitted a forged copy of it, where the time limit was deleted. In addition, the company pumped water from the well directly into the pools, “said the environmental inspection.

The Podhájska thermal swimming pool is known mainly for its unique salt water, which is very similar in composition to the water of the Dead Sea. Strongly mineral water, rich in iodine, has a lower salt concentration than seawater and has a beneficial effect on the regeneration of the organism. The water has a temperature of 80 ° C and is cooled to 33 to 38 degrees in swimming pools.
