Slovak tennis player Andrej Martin had a positive test for doping. The illegal substance SARM 22 in his body was revealed by an analysis in Toronto, Canada, it was a sample taken during the challenger in Bratislava on June 7.

As reported in the joint press release of the Stars For Stars agency and the 32-year-old native of Bratislava, the long-time representative emphatically rejects intentional doping, and the fight to clear his name has begun with the team. Andrej Martin’s body contained the substance SARM 22 (selective androgen receptor modulator), which is on the list of prohibited substances of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).

In medicine, SARMs are used to treat a variety of medical conditions, including muscle wasting, osteoporosis, cancer, and hypogonadism.

“From a young age, my parents led me to follow the rules of fair play in sports, but also in life. I have always done so, and my loved ones and friends know me as a person who condemns cheating and dishonest behavior. About the news about the positive test result at the Bratislava tournament was even more shocking for me.However, I strongly reject the conscious ingestion of an illegal substance.

I only take a minimum of nutritional supplements and haven’t changed anything in that direction for the last 5 years. I have always been a supporter of the fact that winning a tennis match should only be decided by an honest approach in training and a clean performance on the court. This is also why I strongly condemn any illegal method of increasing sports performance.

This whole situation is all the more incomprehensible to me, especially since I have taken dozens of tests throughout my career and never had the slightest doubt that the result would be negative.” stated Andrej Martin in the context of the doping finding. In 2022, he already underwent four inspections, before the one in Bratislava in mid-May in Paris at the Roland Garros Grand Slam.

“I have always behaved in such a way that I have no problem taking full responsibility for my actions in life, but I refuse to accept that I should be labeled as someone who helps himself in sports in an illegal way, despite the fact that I’ve done nothing of the sort. I’m going through clearly one of the toughest tests of my professional career right now, incomparably tougher than any tennis match I’ve ever played.

It’s all the more difficult because I don’t even really know who my opponent is on the other side of the court. But what I know for sure is the fact that I will not give up under any circumstances, thanks also to the tremendous support of my closest friends, without whom I certainly wouldn’t have the will to fight. I owe them a big thank you and I will do everything to see that justice prevails.” noted Andrej Martin.

The Stars for Stars agency is on the side of the Slovak tennis player. “We will do our best to help him in an effort to clear his name in the eyes of the lay and sports public, and of course also among athletes. We have known Andrej for years as an honest and sincere athlete who is completely alien to “fouls” in sports, and we are convinced that together we will enough evidence to show the truth,” said Miroslav Masarčin from the aforementioned agency.

“We are collecting all the details, analysis and evidence, on the basis of which we would be able to find the reasons for such a result. We are communicating with the Slovak Tennis Association and the ATP and, of course, with the World Anti-Doping Agency. As soon as we have more details from our investigation, we will inform the public.” he added.

Andrej Martin did not win any title on the ATP circuit, he made it to the final once in both singles and doubles. His career high in the ATP singles ranking is the 93rd place from February 2020, in the doubles ranking he was the highest at the 69th position in July 2016.
