The Slovak parliament approves the deployment of NATO forces

Of Slovakia Parliament approved by 2100 on Tuesday NATO deployment of troops on national territory after Russia invasion of Slovakia’s neighbor Ukraine.

Initially, about 1,200 soldiers will be deployed from Czech Republic, Germany, Of the Netherlands, ASV, Poland a Slovenia as part of NATO’s “enhanced early presence”. The government had already agreed to the deployment of this NATO force on 9 March.

At Parliament’s sitting on Tuesday, 96 of the 134 MEPs supported it and 15 voted against.

The vote took place two days before the visit of US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin. This will be the US Secretary of Defense’s first visit to Slovakia since joining NATO in 2004.

Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine has begun since February 24, from Ukraine more than three million people have fled, 200,000 of whom have arrived in Slovakia.
