The Slovak football representatives have already completed their first training session in St. Petersburg, where they will have an opening match in the E-group of the European Championship against Poland on Monday, June 14.
The Slovaks flew from Bratislava in the morning, landed in St. Petersburg after lunch, moved to a hotel and completed their first training in the center of Zenit in the early evening. “I’m looking forward, the players are looking forward, the colleagues are looking forward, we are glad to be here. We are looking forward to what will start for us on Monday. The European Championships are something special, a unique tournament,” said assistant coach Marek Mintál for futbalsfz.sk.
The Slovaks completed the general championship on Sunday, when they drew 0: 0 with Austria, and the penultimate preparatory duel ended in a draw, with Bulgaria 1: 1. “The last two international matches have been tough, very tough, the team has soaked them and that’s a very good signal. We’ve had three, maybe four big chances against Austria, which is not bad news. The thing was that we didn’t change any.” he said.
The Poles should also start with the gunner Robert Lewandowski in the opening match: “He takes away an admirable robot, I admire him, he has incredible numbers. But like any of his opponents, we have the ambition to guard him, not let him assert himself.”
Arriving in St. Petersburg, the midfielder Ján Greguš was happy: “The key is that we are here. I expect a strong experience and our 110 percent in every match.” While his name was not firmly nominated for the tournament, he could not help but feel uncomfortable: “But in the end, I always concluded that I was doing my job and the decision was up to the coach.”
For Martin Valjent, this will be the second European Championship, the first of which he completed four years ago in Poland. At that time, still in the team up to 21 years: “It was an experience, but I’m in the senior tournament today. I’m even happier to be in the squad. We need to start from the first match, its result will affect many. Let’s focus on Poland, we will enter the Euro with the match. It will be an important step. “
