As we prepared to see Trae Young and the Hawks return to Philadelphia, we received the little blue bird notice to warn us that the NBA All-Defensive Teams had fallen and suddenly, neither one nor two, we had decided to take the pen to summarize the votes between consistency, little surprises and… the folkloric.
Every year it is a debate which ignites the plain and which animates your aperitifs: who are the nightmares of the attackers, those who spend the season in the throats of your favorite players and who only have a good night’s sleep if the opponent ends up 3/18? In short, who are the best defenders of the year? We don’t confuse you any longer, we share the big picture and we discuss it right after.
First observation: a strong representation of teams from the East with seven players for the Philadelphia, Miami and Milwaukee teams alone. The Sixers take advantage of their record and the second defensive rating to stall three players including Matisse Thybulle, the only replacement of the lot. Regarding the first five, finally a certain logic with the three finalists of the DPOY (including a unanimous vote for Gobert and Simmons) and the doublet of Milwaukee who made serious work this season. Difficult to see any scandal in this choice. Regarding the second team on the other hand… we feel that the hairs of some will start to stand on end severely. Objectively, we’re not going to start hitting on the players in question, there are only good defenders here, it’s not as if they had selected Andre Drummond, eh, but the absence of some is a bit tilted. We think in particular of Mikal Bridges who spent the year taking care of the best opposing players successfully and who continues to put everyone in his pocket in the Playoffs. If he takes this vote personally (GIF Jordan), we wouldn’t like to be the next player who crosses his path. Some will also be surprised at the few votes for Luguentz Dort even if the player probably suffers from the Thunder’s record and the beatings suffered throughout the end of the season. By keeping the same slaughter next year and with a better record, he will have his place. For the details of the votes of the “failed”, it is just below.
As usual, each other’s votes will not be unanimous but one will be surprised some “surprises” like Christian Wood or… Daniel Theis. (really?) Julius Randle has, it seems, a few buddies among journalists in New York to reclaim so many votes even though the Knicks’ collective record deserves some light. Finally, we will have to be explained why Myles Turner is part of the forwards category when, at the latest, he was playing in the same position as Clint Capela who is with the pivots. Always the NBA and its logic that escapes the weak minds that we are.
The NBA All-Defensive Teams have been unveiled and we suspect that the choices will be talked about, especially in Arizona. Overall a logical selection but let’s be honest five minutes, this is a debate that will never lead to a perfect choice and there will always be malcontents on the right to the left.
