The situation with COVID-19 in Ukraine is threatening, the peak will be in a month, – academician of the National Academy of Sciences

The peak of COVID-19 patients may be in about a month. Strengthening quarantine measures, even introducing a lockdown, is at the start of the active spread of infection in the country in order to prevent collapse in the medical system.

About it OBOZREVATEL told the academician of the National Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Chairman of the Commission on Biosafety and Biological Protection under the NSDC Sergey Komissarenko, commenting on the expediency of introducing stricter anti-epidemic restrictions in some regions of Ukraine.

“I think that the situation is threatening. We must have a clear state position on this matter. The introduction of stricter quarantine norms, even a lockdown, should be at the beginning of an increase in the number of people infected at the beginning of an increase in the spread of infection. The peak will be, I think, not earlier than in a month, maybe even later. But this maximum can be very high or moderate. Now we are doing everything to ensure that the number of people who will be infected and get sick is as small as possible, “- explained the academician of the National Academy of Sciences.

In Ukraine, the number of hospitalizations of patients with coronavirus infection is growing rapidly.

Doctor of Biological Sciences considers the decision on the introduction of strict quarantine norms in a timely and rational manner, after all, new strains of COVID-19 are spreading rapidly, unlike the “classic version” that was earlier.

“You and I are witnessing that already there are new variants of the virus that are more aggressive and contagious, spreading faster. In addition, there is evidence from clinicians that the course of the disease is more severe than before. Now in the country there is a situation that in almost all regions, sooner or later, there will be an increase in the number of infected. Then there may be a big burden on the health care system, “Komissarenko stressed.

Themselves people, according to the specialist, should continue to adhere to:

• observe the mask mode while in the room;

• take care of personal hygiene (wash and disinfect hands);

• observe physical distance between people;

• ventilate the premises and process work surfaces;

• get vaccinated against coronavirus, whoever has the opportunity.

“Vaccination is now the only effective way to prevent infection,” – added the chairman of the Commission on Biosafety and Biological Protection under the NSDC.

As reported OBOZREVATEL, in Kiev from March 20 to April 9 inclusive, strict quarantine measures were introduced. Doctors support the decision of the local government, emphasizing that the situation is very difficult.
