Washington DC –
Pentagon reveal troops Ukraine managed to reverse the momentum of the battle against the troops Russia in some areas. According to the Pentagon, Ukraine has managed to retake a number of areas from Russian forces in recent days.
As reported AFPWednesday (23/3/2022), a spokesman for the Ministry of Defense United States of America (US) or the Pentagon, John Kirby, spoke to CNN that the Ukrainians ‘in several places and on several occasions launched attacks’, particularly in the south of the country.
“They are hunting down Russian troops and pushing them out of places where Russian troops have been before,” Kirby said, naming the town of Mykolaiv specifically.
“We have seen this now escalate in recent days.”
Furthermore, Kirby said he could not confirm reports from Ukrainian officials about the recapture of at least one city from Russian troops, and hopes of retaking more cities in the coming days.
However, Kirby called the report ‘consistent with the form of combat and capabilities we have seen Ukraine use’.
Regarding Russian troops, Kirby made comments similar to Western analysts who called Russian troops hampered.
“They’re running out of fuel. They’re running out of food. They’re not integrating their operations together like you would think modern militaries would,” Kirby said.
He called Russian military commanders “not talking to each other” and there were communication problems between the air and ground forces. In some cases, Russian soldiers have reportedly had to use mobile phones to communicate with each other.
