Shelling, tear gas, damage in Chloraka – The account of the incidents during the Syrian protest – “The situation in Chloraka is explosive” says the Mayor
Damage to a patrol car, stone pelting, tear gas and moments of tension the account of the episodes that followed the protest in Chlora.
In her statements to the Cyprus News Agency, Eleni Konstantinouan officer of the Communication Branch of the Police Headquarters, reported that the new protest by the tenants of an apartment complex in Chloraka started at 18:45 on Monday afternoon until 23:30 at night.
According to her, approx one hundred people of Syrian origin who live in a building complex in Chloraka gathered in Avenue Freedom where they continued their protest over the recent illegal cut off of electricity and water supply to the complex in question.
Strong police forces went to the scene.
At around 22:00 on Monday night, a number of the protesting people moved from Eleftherias Avenue and moved towards the place where the EAC substation is located in the specific complex in order to achieve the reconnection of the electricity.
Subsequently, Mrs. Konstantinou continued, the anti-harassment team of ADE Pafos intervened to prevent them. Then they they started throwing stones at the members of the Police and then it happened limited use of chemicals resulting in the dissolution and departure of the tenants of the complex around 23:30 on Monday night.
Upon their departure it was found that it had been provoked stone damage to an official vehicle, specifically to the rear windshield of the vehicle. The scene in the area is still guarded.

In the meantime, in his statements, the community leader Chlorakas Nicolas Liasidis stated that the situation in Chloraka “has been extracted” and that they have been warning for the last four years about what is going to happen.
