The situation with external energy supply to the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) continues to deteriorate. The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, announced this on October 3, his words are published on the official website of the organization.

“The off-site power supply situation remains a major concern. The loss of the 330 kV transmission line this week shows that the situation in this regard is not improving, on the contrary,” – he said.

According to Grossi, this week the Zaporizhia NPP lost contact with the only remaining backup power line with a capacity of 330 kV for 36 hours, the connection was restored on Wednesday, October 2, in the evening. The Director General of the IAEA emphasized that the latest incident clearly shows the fragility of the situation with electricity supply “necessary to cool the six reactors at the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant and other important nuclear safety functions”.

It is also noted that over the past week, the IAEA team, which is currently on shift, continued to hear explosions almost every day, taking – in several explosions near the site. There were no reports of damage to the station, Izvestia clarifies.
