According to Iltalehti, MP Timo Vornanen has been arrested. According to Seiska, Vorna, who works as a police officer in his civilian profession, is suspected of a serious crime.
According to Seiska, the sitting member of parliament is suspected of aggravated assault and a firearms offence.
The newspaper says that it has confirmed from several different sources that the suspect in the crimes is Timo Vornanen (ps). Vornanen is a police officer by civilian profession, and currently on leave from the position of senior constable of the Eastern Finland Police.
The suspicions are related to Thursday evening, when two MPs had spent the evening at Bar Ihku in Helsinki. After leaving the restaurant, according to several sources, Vornanen would have fired a gun in the center of Helsinki. There is currently no information on possible victims.
Iltalehti has also received a tip about the shooting. Seiskale, director of investigations at the Helsinki Police Jukka Larkio has confirmed that the police are investigating the shooting in the center, but does not confirm that it is related to the MP.
According to IL’s information, Vornanen has been arrested. According to Seiska’s information, the weapon used in the incident was authorized.
The case is considered so serious that the Prime Minister and the President of the Republic have also been informed about the shooting incident. The incident is also considered serious because a threat of serious violence against an outsider is suspected.
This is how the restaurant commented
Ihku’s restaurant manager Nico Heikkilä commented on Friday to Iltalehti that the incident has not affected the restaurant “in any way”.
– As usual, we are open at 4 p.m.
Ihku will not comment on the incident or its location.
– The police are investigating and we are not going to comment on the case in any way.
– Everything that has become public, everyone can deduce what happened from there, but I will not comment in any other way.
It’s not appropriate to ask
Iltalehti’s reporter visited Bar Ihku’s door on Friday evening.
When asking the security guard on duty about the events of the previous night and whether there had been a shooting in the vicinity after leaving Vornasen’s restaurant, the security guard informed the reporter that there was no employee on duty that evening who could be asked about the events.
The organizer justified his answer by saying that none of the employees present, including him, was on duty the night before and at the time of the events.
The reporter asked if it was okay for him to go inside and ask any eyewitnesses about the previous night’s events.
– They will kick you out if you start asking customers or staff about the previous night’s events. Nobody knows anything there. The police informs when there is something to inform, the warden answered.
Our reporter went to nearby restaurants to ask if anyone had witnessed the shooting incident in question. So far, Iltalehti has not been able to reach any eyewitnesses.

According to information from Iltalehti, Prime Minister Petteri Orpo’s cabinet received information about Vornase’s involvement in the night incident on Friday morning.
At that point, the information was that Vornanen had been involved in an incident in the center of Helsinki and the police were investigating the matter.
According to Seiska, Vorna, who is sitting in parliament for the first time, is suspected of aggravated assault and a firearms offence.
MPs have the opportunity to keep weapons in the parliament, for example because of their shooting or hunting hobbies. According to IL’s information, Vornanen has not kept a firearm in the premises intended for it in the parliament.
According to IL’s information, Vornanen spent Thursday evening at Bar Ihku, located near the parliament building. Other representatives were also present.
Information for the chairman
According to the constitution, the arrest or imprisonment of a member of parliament must be reported to the speaker of the parliament without delay.
Speaker of the Parliament Jussi Halla-Aho told Iltalehte last night that “a case that fits the description” has been brought to his attention.
– A case that fits the description has been brought to my attention today, Halla-aho said.
The chairman received the information on Friday morning.
Halla-aho said that the party’s information about the events was still “very lacking” on Friday evening.
Vornanen was absent on Friday
A short plenary session was held in the Parliament on Friday, which started at 1 pm and ended at 1:28 pm.
According to the roll call report, Vornanen was absent without an acceptable reason. Such reasons include a task related to parliamentary work, illness or family leave.
A gross criminal suspicion against a sitting member of parliament can lead to the representative’s dismissal from parliament if he or she is convicted of a crime.
In this case, the parliament would vote on dismissal and 2/3 of the votes would be required.
Another PS member of parliament present
Vornanen’s representative colleague Sanna Antikainen (ps) says in X that she witnessed the events of the incident.
– I was there yesterday and saw part of the incident as a bystander, Antikainen writes.
