The director Kristina Taberyová died. The youngest sister of actor Petr Štěpánek was 71 years old. She had been battling cancer for a long time, and in recent weeks her health had been rapidly deteriorating.
He announced the sad news on facebook Šimon Pánek, director of People in Need. “Kristina Taberyová, an educated, classy and penetratingly smart lady who helped create People in Need in the early 1990s, died after a long illness,” he wrote.
The death hit her family hard. “This is the message I’ve been afraid I’d have to write. My mom passed away yesterday. The bravest and most amazing person I’ve ever known. She’s why I’m such a big fan of woman power because I grew up looking up to my mom. Her empathy, bravery, intellectual outlook, hard work, sense of justice and love for us were absolutely incredible,” wrote Kristina’s son Erik Tabery on Facebook on Thursday.
Taberyova suffered from cancer for a long time. “She fought cancer for 20 years, she simply decided with her stubbornness to start treatment. The disease returned, she fought again. But she herself said that it was worth it,” added Tabery.
Back in December, Taberyová participated in an online meeting of the Administrative Board of People in Need. “Kristina was always close to us, she was always willing to help, she was supportive, kind, but also critical. She was a long-time member of our Board of Directors,” added Pánek.
However, her health has been deteriorating in recent weeks. “But then she left quickly, peacefully and in her sleep. As she wished. So the pain is huge, but purely selfish because I don’t have her here. She had a beautiful life. And I have to say that knowing that she left knowing about our love , is extremely relieving,” Tabery concluded.
Deputy Speaker of the Chamber Olga Richterová (Pirates) wants to propose her for a state award. “She laid the foundations of People in Need as it still operates today. I will nominate Mrs. Tabery for a state award,” Richterová said on twitter.
Kristina worked as a director, screenwriter and dramaturg. She was one of the four children of actor Zdenek Štěpánek. Of the siblings, only the actor Petr Štěpánek remained in the world. In recent years, fans could see him as Eduard Valšík in The Office in the Rose Garden 2. He also starred in a number of other films, series and fairy tales.
