The singer Yseult has decided to leave France to come and settle in Belgium, in Brussels. “Its inhabitants welcome diversity with open arms, they embrace their colonial past, unlike France,“she explains to the British newspaper The Guardian.
The artist discovered in La Nouvelle Star has been criticized several times for his opinions and his outspokenness. “In France, I felt blamed for who I was, ” she says. She speaks regularly on important topics such as racism, grossophobia and mental health.
In June 2020, she had also spoken on the show “C à vous” concerning the murder of George Floyd: “To eliminate us is a crime, to suffocate us is a crime and to deny our existence is ignorance. (…) My community has always been targeted, injustice is unbearable to my heart, my sadness is vast, my hatred is deep. RIP to victims. Let justice be done.“
During the music victories, she had received many grossophobic comments on Twitter. She had reacted: “142 kilos of talent, honey. I love my body. I often touch myself to do myself good. Regarding sales, I have no pressure, I am an independent artist, I have my own label, I am president of my production company. Talent and quality above all.“
In Belgium, the singer wants to continue her fights. “I want minorities, still invisible in France, to be present in the cultural landscape. We must be present in culture because we are present in society,“concludes Yseult.
