The Singer Advocates Against Censorship: Respecting Artistic Expression in Music

The singer is against censorship: “Music is art and the way we have to express ourselves must be respected”

MADRID, 12 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The singer Maikel Delacalle believes that the relationship between the macho lyrics and the music, it is a “subject that is there and is not there”, despite the fact that he affirms that it is something “that will always be there”, at the same time that it denies that it is a particular problem of the sector because “it happens at the time of speaking”.

“Bad Bunny came to say that he could suck ass and there was no problem. I think that (machismo) in the lyrics is something that will always be there. However, artists like me will also be in charge of making that sound a little cleaner”, has stood out in an interview with Europa Press for the launch of his new album, ‘Códigos’ (Virgin Music).

The artist has added that “music is like society” and has exemplified the case of minors and vocabulary. “It happens a bit like with children, with the passing of the years they say more swear words than before or they already know what is one thing and what is another at a younger age than a few years ago“, he commented.

In addition, Delacalle has spoken out against censorship in the world of culture, especially in the music sector, and considers that the way in which artists make “art” must be “respected”.

I believe that you can express yourself the way you want, wearing the clothes you want, and saying the words you want a little., because people must know that they are going to see a show of that person. Music is art and the way we have to express ourselves must be respected, “she assured. In any case, he claims to be one of the artists who” say nothing reprehensible the least “.

‘CODES’

Next Friday, July 14, his new album, ‘Codes’, made up of 14 songs, including ‘Mi nena remix’, along with Quevedo; ‘If you ask’ with Bejo; or ‘Room 302’. Despite the fact that some songs have other artists, Delacalle insists that the album is something from “home” and is an “autochthonous” product. “I could have counted on collaborations from abroad, like Eladio Carrión or Justin Quiles, but I wanted to share it with colleagues who share blood and homeland,” she commented.

Maikel Delacalle points out that his new project is like “organic food” and moves away from “precooked food” and he points out that it is something “that the industry lacked”. “Códigos is to get out of the normal and the conceptual, of what everyone is doing and what everyone wants to see and hear,” she has pointed out.

Thus, he has been very proud of his new album, especially for the “purity” it contains. “Right now, ‘Códigos’ is not the most ‘mainstream’ thing you’re going to hear, but it is the purest. It’s music from the roots until the fruit grows”, he stated.

He also confesses that it is his most personal title so far. “I plant my music and my art, cut it, wash it and serve it myself. It’s something that I’m eating with my people,” he assured, before pointing out that he feels “undervalued.” “The record will open people’s eyes. I am a total artist,” he underlines.

‘Codes’ is something that is completely thought of by me. It’s something I’ve been dreaming about for a long time. I am a person with many codes and that is what moves the world. There are people who respect the codes and people who do not respect them, but they are always there,” she explained.

GOSPEL CHOIR

One of the surprises on the album is the song ‘Ya no está’, dedicated to his mother and grandmother, whose video clip has dark scenery, where Delacalle shares the spotlight with a gospel choir. “Among my favorite movies is ‘Sister Act’, which I saw as a child and I always thought that I would like to be the little boy who sings saying that Jesus has returned“, he recalled.

However, he points out that the gospel choir intervenes only at the end of the song and that the voices that are heard are his “recorded at eight layers”. “It was a good anecdote because, visually, you think there’s a choir singing it, but I’m singing it,” she says.

Lastly, the singer trusts that his new project will bring him closer to one of his professional goals: singing at the Wizink Center. “I think that by next year I can already be talking about this issue without a problem. The dream is near“.
