The Singapore Flu: Not a Cause for Concern, According to Riau Islands Health Service

TANJUNGPINANG, SIJORITODAY.com – The Riau Islands Health Service asked residents not to worry about the Singapore Flu.

The Head of the Riau Islands Health Service, Muhammad Bisri said, Singapore Flu is the same as the usual flu and is not yet a cause for concern.

“It doesn’t matter, as usual, why worry too much,” he said, Wednesday (6/9/2023).

Because it was not a cause for concern, the Singapore Flu had not yet become a concern of the Riau Islands Health Office and the Ministry of Health.

“We don’t control it, it hasn’t become a concern. The Ministry of Health also stated that this had not yet become a consensus,” he said.

Bisri added, Singapore flu usually attacks toddlers whose immune systems are weak.

This virus can spread through hands and mouth, so it is necessary to adopt healthy lifestyle behaviors.

“Toddlers’ immune systems are not primed, the flu is transmitted from the hands and mouth,” he added.

Previously, Member of the PKS faction of the Riau Islands DPRD, Wahyu Wahyudin, asked residents to implement health protocols when doing activities outside the home.

Wahyu said the implementation of the health protocol was to anticipate the spread of the Singapore Flu.

“We invite residents of Batam, Tanjungpinang and Bintan to be vigilant. The flu spreads quickly, so the health program must be carried out,” he said, Friday (1/9/2023).

In addition to residents, the Chairman of Commission II DPRD Kepri asked related agencies to install temperature measuring devices at international ports.

This is to anticipate the entry of foreigners who are exposed to Singapore Flu to the Riau Islands, especially Batam, Tanjungpinang and Bintan.

“We ask the Health Office to strictly guard the port entrance from Singapore and install flu detection devices,” he pleaded.

The Tanjungpinang City Health Office reported that 81 children were exposed to Singapore Flu during the January-August 2023 period.

Children who are exposed to this experience symptoms of canker sores and spots on the hands.

Head of the Tanjungpinang Health Service, Elfiani Sandri explained, none of the children who tested positive for Singapore Flu were hospitalized, all were outpatient.

“This case occurs every year, the treatment is like a common cold medicine for children and also a prescription from a doctor,” he explained, Wednesday (30/8/2023).

He also advised parents to adopt a clean and healthy lifestyle to avoid the Singapore Flu virus.

“Singapore flu is transmitted through droplets like Covid-19. Children are easily infected because their immunity is still low,” he concluded.
