Ever since The Simpsons debuted on Fox in 1989, the writers of the popular animated comedy have been known to often predict the future.
Depictions of certain real-life events that previously occurred in an episode of the long-running TV show have become a staple of The Simpsons and fans are quick to report them.
Now it seems the writers may have done it again; this time, an excerpt from the 2015 series featured the caption “Trump 2024” with Homer Simpson in the scene, which refers to the real-life situation when Donald Trump announced he would run for president of the United States in the 2024 election, reported “Giant Freaking Robots”.
A photo of the scene in question, titled “Trumptastic Voyage,” uploaded to YouTube in 2015, made its way to Twitter via Al Jean. Gene is a writer for The Simpsons and posted the photo on social media to highlight how the show’s writers tend to predict what will actually happen to the celebrities and high-profile politicians involved in the show, he writes. With Donald Trump announcing that he will run for president for the third time in his political career, it seems The Simpsons have another award under their belt for predicting events appearing on the show before they happen in reality.
The most famous instance of The Simpsons predicting the future was in the Season 11 episode titled “Bart in the Future.” In the episode, Lisa Simpson is the president of the United States and mentions a budget problem she inherited from President Trump—a slight nod to her first run for president in 2016, when she ended up defeating Hillary Clinton. At the time, when it aired in March 2000, the episode was a joke, but 16 years later, when Donald Trump actually ran for president and won, it gained popularity again.
