Next April 8, an astronomical event will shake the attention of the international community and fans of sightings in the sky. This is the total solar eclipse that, according to authorities in the US and Mexico, will begin in Mazatlán, Sinaloa; and will culminate in the cities of Newfoundland and Labrador, in Canada.
It is estimated that, on April 8, nearly 31 million people will observe the phenomenon throughout Mexico, the United States and Canada.
Due to the great impact that this event will have, some Internet users have already begun to link this fact with an alleged prediction made by some characters from The Simpsons, the popular series created by Matt Groening in 1989.
And, although nothing is written in stone, the truth is that the expectation for what will happen on April 8, 2024, has increased. In the past, Groening has mentioned these astronomical phenomena at least three times; Now fans have recovered said episodes to tie them in with events that may or may not happen in the real world.
Below, we share the alleged predictions of The Simpsons regarding this year’s total solar eclipse:
Episode 12, Season 4: “Marge vs. the Monorail”
In this episode, first broadcast in 1993, Marge opposes the construction of a monorail because the workers used poor quality materials. Despite attempts to reverse the work, the people of Springfield agree with its construction, to the extent that Homer registers as the driver of said transport.
On its inaugural trip, the train loses control and due to the presence of the solar eclipse, the train manages to slow down; implying that the astronomical phenomenon reduced the intensity of electrical energy. At the end of the eclipse, the train increases its speed and is controlled at good speed to its final station by Homer.
Episode 433, Temporada 20: “Maggie has an idea”
First broadcast in 2009, in this episode of The Simpsons, news anchor Kent Brockman announces the total solar eclipse in Springfield. Expecting the phenomenon, the yellow family decides to go out to see the show with homemade visual protection devices.
In a fight between father and son, Bart and Homer fight over who will use the homemade object that allows them to see the eclipse; In his attempt to win first place, it breaks. Marge, trying to mediate things, gives them her artifact and, upon seeing the eclipse directly, she is blinded. The situation led the family to neglect the youngest member of the family, Maggie, who went missing.
Episode 637, Season 29: “Laggard”
In this episode, broadcast in 2009, the family appears living together as if nothing had happened while an eclipse takes place. The Simpsons look calm, eating chops and talking as if nothing were happening. At some point in the plot, Marge, Bart and Lisa go out to see the astronomical phenomenon and Homer refuses to attend.
As if it were a curse, the marriage between Marge and Homer will go through a stage of monotony, blaming the solar eclipse for not having everyone present at the time of its development.
Do you think something similar could happen to someone in this plane the other week?
