The Similarities between Spanish and British Royal Families: Scandals and Docuseries Exposed

Royalty is often not synonymous with happiness: this is what the royal families of Spain and England have in common.

It sounds like the beginning of a joke: “What do the Spanish and British royal families have in common?”. The answer provides a list of very similar situations. To date, the former ruler is located in exile on the private island of Nourai, in Abu Dhabi, following his abdication in favor of his son, which took place in 2014, and also to escape from the Spanish judiciary and its serious problems with the tax authorities and with justice. The father of the current ruler of Spain had an affair with a woman, exactly like the English king Charles III. Juan Carlos’s mistress was Corinne Larsen. But who is this woman, and where does she come from? For many years she was the adviser to Princess Charlene of Monaco, accompanying her to major events or important trips.

The woman was the king’s mistress for five years, but the relationship had a sad ending: Corinna denounced her ex-lover in 2020, accusing him of employee and applying for a restraining order. It goes without saying that the case was won by her, as she is a very powerful woman.

The Serie “The fall of a king” of four episodes traces the “heyday and decline” of the former Spanish sovereign, with archival images and testimonials. Larsen released important statements regarding the adulterous relationship: “It is such a proof of failure to speak here today and reveal things that should have been kept secret forever“. As one historian has stated, the story of Juan Carlos has “all the ingredients of a Shakespearean tragedy: power, suffering, money, sex. Nothing is missing”.
