Princess Ariane is always a little more in the background than her two older sisters, but last year we got to know the ‘inscrutable Orange’ a little better through the words of Máxima, Amalia and her own.
In the words of Maxima
Princesses Amalia and Alexia many people have a good idea, but their younger sister has always been a little more secretive. Although we slowly but surely learn a little more about the 14-year-old princess.
Queen Máxima, for example, told about her talented daughter in her birthday interview. “She does very well in school, is incredibly sweet, ethereal, very feminine but at the same time very powerful. She has an incredible amount of talent.”
After the summer holidays of 2021, two princesses flew out: Amalia because of her gap year, Alexia to go to a British boarding school. That also meant a big change for Princess Ariane, Queen Máxima explained during an interview in the summer. “She stays here alone and gets a lot of attention. Perhaps too much attention, that is always the question, we will guard against that. But I think it’s also special. It does bring a different dynamic to the family. Maybe a different Ariane will come forward than when she is with both her sisters. I think many people will recognize that. We will see.”
In the words of Amalia
In the booklet that Claudia de Breij wrote about Princess Amalia, Ariane is briefly mentioned. “Ariane is a bit of a dreamer,” says the crown princess about her youngest sister. Something that fits in well with the ‘ethereal’ that Máxima already mentioned. But what exactly does it mean? That plenty of incense is burned in Huis ten Bosch Palace? That she is a spiritual royal as the Norwegian Princess Märtha Louise is? The Oranges leave that in the middle.

During King’s Day 2021, Princess Ariane was also briefly questioned: What is it like for her to show more and more of herself? “Yes, fine”, the princess laughed. “I participate and I also find it very interesting to get to know different regions of the Netherlands, especially that”, was her royally responsible statement. It shows a bit of royal upbringing.
She doesn’t reveal much herself yet, but the people around her are increasingly. Royalty expert Annemarie de Kunder also told more about Princess Ariane this week in RTL Boulevard: “I have spoken to people around her and they describe Ariane as someone who is very calm, the calmest of the three. She gets high grades. What I also thought was a nice anecdote is that she enjoys sitting in the garden by herself. That’s where she does her homework.” That only reinforces the dreamy image we have of the youngest A’tje.
Whether Princess Ariane is indeed more prominent now that her sisters no longer run the palace? Who knows, we might notice it on King’s Day 2022 – just a little patience!
