A member of the Democratic Party, Mahdi Afifi, explains to Sky News Arabia the significance of the remarkable video that Biden published on Thursday, in which he appeared drinking coffee, its relationship to the elections, and the reasons for the party’s adherence to Biden’s candidacy despite the criticism.
And Biden appeared in a video clip he posted on his account on the “X” website (formerly Twitter), while he was drinking coffee in a cup with his picture and the date 2024 on it, and he said: “I love dark coffee.”
New propaganda
The member of the Democratic Party comments that the video comes as part of the campaign for the elections scheduled for 2024, and the mug that appeared in the video is among the slogans used in the elections.
In Afifi’s estimation, the video is an indication of Biden’s determination to run for the elections (which he will run at the age of 82, born in 1942), despite some skepticism about his ability to do so due to his advanced age.
The Democratic Party is also sticking to Biden’s candidacy for a second presidential term, according to Afifi, listing the reasons for that:
The economy has improved according to the results of the stock market and economic indicators. Unemployment is dropping significantly, to a degree that has not occurred in nearly 50 years.
Despite this, former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton spoke of her understanding of some voters’ concerns about Payne’s advanced age.
During her attendance at a conference in Washington last May, a question was raised about this after Biden stumbled during the Group of Seven summit in Japan, and the former candidate for the Democratic Party for the presidency replied: “His age (Biden) is a problem, and the people have every right to worry about it.”
But at the same time, she hoped that the US president would remain very focused and competitive in the elections because she believed he could be re-elected.
And the White House is doing its best to protect Biden from “embarrassing” situations and questions related to his age.
In recent weeks, White House officials have used a ladder with fewer steps to board Air Force One, to reduce the odds of Biden stumbling.
Biden is the oldest candidate to run in the US presidential elections, while the strongest candidate in front of him so far, former President Donald Trump, is not far from him in age, as he will reach 78 years in 2024.
