This year is special for Gargždas and all its residents – the city is celebrating its 770th anniversary and is one of the oldest cities in Lithuania. On this occasion, a special sign was created, inviting you to be inspired by history and create it together.
“For some time now, Gargždai residents and guests of the city have been greeted by the inscription “Gargždai 770″ in the square in front of the bus station, and from a closer look, a special sign created for the city’s anniversary can be seen. Its symbolism is Baltic and presents the synergy of four cultures, four waters, the history of Gargžda. Each of us is a part of it and we are constantly creating for future generations,” says Klaipėda District Mayor Bronius Markauskas.
The history of the city began with the first mention in historical sources in 1253 and was later accompanied by both painful and happy events. 770 years is the time during which we lived, created, fought, grieved, built, rejoiced and continue to live creating more beautiful Gargždas.
“Welcoming and celebrating the 770th anniversary of Gargžda, many interesting events await. I invite everyone to become a part of the city’s history – to create installations, organize exhibitions, conferences or other events that reflect the theme “Gargždai 770 – Inspire stories”, as well as use this sign in their posters, invitations and daily activities”, invites Vice Mayor Ligita Liutikienė.
