BTV will continue to broadcast the show “Food Hunters” with Andre Tokev, who was released from custody after a 72-hour stay in it. The television, in which the famous chef has been working for years, will follow the case and will consider all possibilities for developing its relations with Andre Tokev, they explained from there.
“I’m sorry for what happened. I work 15 to 18 hours a day. I am confused by everything that happened. I ask for a lighter measure of restraint. ” These were the only words of the popular boss after he was detained for drunk driving on Sunday night on the ring road in Sofia.
At the moment, Tokev is at home, but refuses any contact with journalists. He communicates only with his lawyers, his relatives said.
Shortly after his arrest, a video appeared on social media, which clearly shows Tokev driving his pickup curvyly, while three of his tires are flat and the right rear is without a wheel.
The video is shocking not only because of the condition of Tokev’s car, but also because of the general idea of the popular chef – a perfectionist to the core, extremely disciplined and educated, who has worked all his life for the good name of his profession.
He is one of the people who make more and more young people want to cook professionally. And through the shows in which he has participated for years, he shows that gourmet cuisine is not only for the most expensive and sophisticated restaurants, but can also be applied at home by any good amateur chef.
Tokev is known for his German precision – he was born in Leipzig. His father is a Bulgarian who graduated in tourism and went to Germany on an exchange program. In addition to gaining knowledge and acquaintances in a foreign country, there he meets love. Thus, on December 14, 1968, Andre was born, whose life from a very young age passed between Bulgaria and Germany. He lived with his parents for several years there, then here. When he arrives in our country for the first time, it is quite difficult for him – he does not know our language well. And

His family also lives a little in Algeria. And what excites Andre everywhere, even from a very fragile childhood, is what happens in the kitchen. He was 4 years old when he first scalded himself on the stove while tasting roasted goose with potato dumplings and fragrant red cabbage from his grandmother in Germany. She often helps her with her favorite recipes, and together with her grandmother in Bulgaria they make homemade noodles. Thus, cooking becomes not only his hobby, but also what he wants to develop and prove professionally.
Tokev first graduated from the College of Catering in Bankya, and then international tourism and hotel management in Varna. He also has a master’s degree from Germany. He is the founder of the Bulgarian Association of Professional Chefs, the official jury of the most prestigious competition for professional chefs in Europe Bocuse d’Or and the holder of the only Eastern European diploma Global Masterchef Degree.
He works in the restaurants of major hotel chains around the world, two of which are Michelin-starred. He has prepared for politicians such as Angela Merkel and Bill Clinton, athletes Boris Becker and the Klitschko brothers, celebrities Dustin Hoffman, Werner Herzog, Charlize Theron.
His career in television began with TV 7, where he often appeared with culinary advice in the morning block. He speaks so interestingly that he is offered to start making his own show there, which they call “Gourmet with Andre”.
Then he joined the jury of the culinary reality show “Masterchef” on BTV. The initial idea was for Tokev to help organize a completely new format for the Bulgarian air. He joins the conversations with the other two proven professionals – Viktor Angelov and Petar Mihalchev, who are invited to evaluate the participants. Finally, the producers invite him to join the jury. “I decided to agree because for me this is a huge advertisement for chefs in Bulgaria.

The start of the show is in the spring of 2015, and so far seven seasons have been broadcast, of which Andre Tokev is an integral part. In the meantime, another BTV show with a master chef – “Food Hunters” starts. With it, Tokev shows the culinary traditions in different parts of Bulgaria, as well as how many interesting cultural and historical landmarks we have. Currently, the television broadcasts its sixth season, which has a slightly changed concept – it presents the culinary intertwining of traditions and cultures and meets viewers with foreigners living in Bulgaria and Bulgarians living outside our country. The episodes were filmed both in Bulgaria and in Italy. They will go until Christmas, and then it is unknown whether Tokev will reappear on the small screen.
Andre’s greatest support has always been his family – his wife Maria, with whom he has been together for more than 30 years, and both daughters.

Tokev learns that he has a granddaughter while filming an episode of “Food Hunters” in Brazil. “For me, my daughters were a great motivation in my life. But now the little granddaughter – her name is Emma-Marie, is really great motivation and great fun “, Tokev told BTV in 2019.
Tokev’s little daughter, Eliza, is very artistic and even made her big screen debut by starring in Ivan Nichev’s feature film The Road to the Costa del Maresme. In it, the young actress partnered with the great Tatiana Lolova, with whom she later met Andre Tokev, when he went to the premiere of the film with Eliza. A few years ago, Andre’s daughter opened a small restaurant in downtown Sofia with his help, and recently began teaching German at school.
The family is close to Tokev when he makes his big dream come true and opens his first restaurant of his own in the fall of 2015. His wife Maria helps with the organization, and little Eliza takes care of the restaurant’s website. But Tokev does not give up his other commitments and his mission to promote the cooking profession. He participates in a number of seminars, conferences, organizes competitions with his colleagues to encourage young chefs. He himself continues to develop his business. He opened another restaurant more than two years ago, and last October presented for the first time his brand of refreshing drink, which he has been developing for two decades.
