The cold wave has hit the country and is still washing in both frozen pipes, closed kindergartens and cold, squeamish children.
But the machine driver from Sandefjord is not one of those who get cold feet – or lie down.
All weather is shorts weather, notes Alexander Johnsen-Næss (45).
– I don’t think it’s that cold, he says to VG.
This despite the fact that the thermometer shows minus 17 degrees in Sandefjord on Monday morning.
Earlier in the week there were under 20 blue.
But for Alexander, it’s never too cold for shorts.
– I am the last Viking, Alexander laughs and adds that he wears shorts all year round.

Fashion or comfort?
But why does Alexander refuse to put on trousers?
Is it fashion or comfort? Or will he simply tough it out for the locals?
– I got a rash after a vaccine a few years ago, and it is extremely itchy with normal trousers, explains Alexander.
For the past week, Alexander has been out in Sandefjord’s streets every day to plow away the large amounts of snow that have fallen.
Although the shorts are as common as the underpants for Alexander, there are other transients that open the eyes.
– I get comments all the time: “That looked so cold” or “What the hell are you wearing?”, says Alexander.
First of all, he tends to answer that “it’s not shorts, but shorts”, says Sandefjordingen.

Could it really be that Alexander never wearing pants?
No then, no personal rule without exception.
– Only the wife can force me to wear trousers, laughs the 45-year-old and adds:
– I have asked for permission to buy dress shorts, but she flatly refused. No theme, she said.
We are done with the record cold for this time, and Norway is facing a warmer week, the meteorologists predict.
Good news for many, perhaps, but Alexander is not rejoicing.
– It may well be winter and cold all the time for me. I’m not happy about summer. Then I have the air conditioning at only 16 degrees inside the excavator and even that gets far too hot, he says.
