Employers in South Baden had to wait an average of 148 days in 2022 before they could fill vacancies again. Figures from the Federal Employment Agency show which professions had the greatest need.
The increase over the past twelve months is striking: in southern Baden there are only a few sectors that have vacancies filled in less than 100 days. But that’s not all: the number of people who have to wait an average of 200 days or more has increased significantly. Carpenters, for example, will soon have to wait a whole year for a suitable applicant to come knocking. The average vacancy time here in 2022 was a good 344 days.
Demand was similarly high in geriatric care and bricklaying, averaging 319 and 303 days respectively. This emerges from the annual statistics of the registered jobs in the employment agency districts of Freiburg, Lrrach and Offenburg. On average, about every second position subject to social security contributions that a company has to fill is reported to the employment agencies. If the company has successfully filled the position with an external applicant or canceled the job offer, for example because the position was assigned internally, this is recorded by the statistics. In 2022 there were a total of 32,626 such disposals at reported locations – 3,841 more than in the previous year. The pre-corona level has still not been reached; In 2019 there were 36,832 jobs.
The vacancy period is different: it has now even exceeded the level of the boom year 2019. At that time it took an average of 136 days to fill a position in southern Baden. In the Corona years 2020 and 2021, the value fell to 124 and 113 days due to the reduced demand for workers. The ranking of occupations with a particularly high demand, on the other hand, shows only slight shifts. Whether warehouse, childcare, sales or office – everywhere has been missing for years.
The way to victory in the job engine
The award ceremony will take place on Thursday, April 27th, in the Meckelhalle of the Sparkasse Freiburg-Nordlicher Breisgau. A jury made up of representatives from the Badische Zeitung, the Freiburg Chamber of Crafts, the Southern Upper Rhine Chamber of Industry and Commerce, the Hochrhein-Bodensee Chamber of Industry and Commerce, the Schwarzwald-Baar-Heuberg Chamber of Industry and Commerce and the WVIB will decide on the award. The winners will receive a portrait in BZ and an image film. Last year’s winners are excluded from participation. Companies that are less than three years old are also not taken into account.
