“Smur’s second line saves lives. » The CFDT, CGT, CNI and FO unions are concerned, in a press release, about the disappearance of the 2e Smur line from the Nord Franche-Comté hospital, for a few weeks. A line of Smur is a team made up of a doctor, a nurse and an ambulance driver, with a vehicle, capable of intervening 24 hours a day, seven days a week. At the Nord Franche hospital – County, which covers a population area of 350,000 inhabitants, two teams can normally be mobilized.
Provisional schedules have indeed been prepared for the coming weeks, where this suspension of the 2e line appears, due to the lack of doctors. Absenteeism linked to sick leave, training or even leave… The decision will be taken at the last moment, depending on the recruitment of temporary doctors for example, warns Pascal Mathis, general manager of the Nord Franche-Comté hospital. This is not the first time that this line has been suspended, also warns the director. “These are measures that we take regularly in our management, depending on attendance,” he adds. However, this problem seems more pronounced than before. “We work at just-in-time,” acquiesce Pascal Mathis.
“The medical team is chronically understaffed, abounds the statement of the unions. It’s not new. » They denounce uncompensated departures and recruitment difficulties. He regrets a situation that is getting worse. “Our emergency physicians are doing everything they can to maintain, as well as possible and at arm’s length, this Smur line at the cost of many overtime hours”, insist the unions. But “it is clear that they will not be able to compensate, in the long term, for the shortcomings without permanent additional means”, alert the press release. The unions also echo, in their missive, the ministerial report of the summer of 2022, on emergencies and unscheduled care, presenting a generalization of a functioning “in degraded mode”.
