The short film Daughter continues to roll foreign festivals

“The film Daughter has really become a festival phenomenon,” rolling stone “, which rolls down the hill after a pandemic break. I am glad that at the end of August, viewers in Czech cinemas will see it in the FAMU band in the cinema. At the same time, Daria is already working really intensively on her new, master’s film. With the support of the Fund, it is already in a phase of demanding development. I appreciate Daria that she didn’t go the same way she tried on Daughter, but she has the courage to continue searching and discovering, ”said producer Martin Vandas from MAUR Film, which co-produces Kaškvava’s films.

“We are glad that the Daughter has built on the string of successes before the coronavirus epidemic. I don’t want it to sound ungrateful, but when they take part in a foreign festival, we are actually expecting some awards, ”said Helena Bezděk Fraňková, director of the State Fund for Cinematography. “Not only the Daughter, but also the success of other animated and short films have confirmed to us that the long-term setting and systematic steps of SFKMG supporting this area are the right way to go,” added director Bezděk Fraňková.

The short puppet film deals with the relationship between a father and a daughter.

The latest award for the film Daughter arrived at the International Film Festival in Palm Springs, USA, where she was selected by the jury as the Best Student Animated Short Film. In June, she was also nominated for the prestigious BAFTA Student Film Award and for the official selection of the prestigious animated film festival in Hiroshima, Japan. The May Monsters Animated Film Festival in Lisbon, Portugal, even awarded the Daughter two prizes. For the best student short film and a Special Award from the so-called senior jury. The jury of the Watersprite student festival in Cambridge awarded the Daughter three prizes for the film of the year, an animation prize and an award for directing.

The long-term success of Czech filmmakers in the field of animated and short works is also reflected in the Czech Film and Television Academy (CFTA), which will be awarding a separate prize, the Czech Lion, for animated and short film from next year. The film Daughter was created with the support of the State Fund for Cinematography as part of the Trojhlas cycle. The producer is FAMU and the co-producer is MAUR Film.
