The fact that the carts are locked with coins stemmed from the fear that no one would return freely available carts to their destination. They would remain scattered across the parking lot and block traffic. In the end, this would result in the supermarket having to employ another person to look after the shopping trolleys only. At a time of pressure on economic operations and lack of manpower, this solution is unsatisfactory.

An ordinary key is sufficient to unlock the shopping cart. If you skillfully slide it into the coin slot, the relevant mechanism will be pushed and the carriage will open. In this way, you can make a large purchase in the cart even if you do not have a coin of the appropriate value in your wallet or if you went shopping with only a payment card. With the trolley, you can easily transport your shopping to the trunk of your car in the parking lot.

Otherwise, you will have to put your shopping in a shopping basket, help yourself to bags from the bakery or vegetable department, or reach for a larger box left on one of the shelves.
