the shop of a town of Bangladeshi origin was fined for various irregularities

The local police of Monfalcone and the Prevention Department of the Animal Food Hygiene Section of Asugi together for the protection of consumer health and fair competition between businesses.

In recent days, a joint inspection was held at a food and butcher’s shop managed by a citizen of Bangladeshi origins, finding various irregularities relating to the poor hygiene conditions detected, presence of fruit and vegetables without traceability, products packaged without labeling in Italian or with labels that reported untrue information and meat sold without providing the consumer with the information required by Italian regulations.

“The constant collaboration between the local police and the health authority is aimed at protecting consumers and traders who respect the hygiene and health regulations in force in Italy – notes the deputy mayor of Monfalcone, Antonio Garritani. Consumers’ health cannot be put at risk by displaying poorly preserved goods, without labels in the Italian language or not traced and, with the help of our local police and Asugi, we are ensuring that this does not happen. Food traceability, for example, is not mere bureaucracy, but constitutes an essential element in the management of food safety, because, thanks to an accurate documentation system, it allows the characteristics and history of food to be reconstructed along the production chain and to allow a timely withdrawal from the market in the event of critical issues relating to quality or safety, thus limiting the risks for the final consumer. I thank the staff involved in this specific type of controls, which are very important for safeguarding citizens and fair competition between companies”.

In fact, Italian legislation requires that all agri-food products, even those of foreign origin, be adequately traced, involving all the players in the agri-food chain in this process, also requiring that labels in the Italian language be present on the goods.

Once the multiple irregularities were detected, the administrative detention of the goods was ordered and sanctions of approximately 9,500 euros were imposed.
