The shooting star Malarina receives the bull of Salzburg

Awards awarded for the 42nd time. The awards gala takes place in Linz.

Serbian-Austrian stand-up comedian Marina Lacković aka Malarina receives the “Salzburg Bull 2023”. Malarina, who has only been active as a stand-up comedian since 2019, inspires “with a shrewd and touching mix of applied ethnology, political satire, and a comical re-evaluation of the pride and prejudiced relationship between Austria and Serbia,” read a statement on Sunday. In her first solo, “Serbs Are Dying Slowly”, she tackles the great European history from a Serbian perspective. In addition, Malarina, whose parents came to Tyrol as guest workers, offers “funny insights into the customs and traditions of the Balkans and tries to contribute to international understanding with cabaret”.

For Germany, the radio award for German-language cabaret, each endowed with 6000 euros, goes to Mathias Tretter, for Switzerland to Dominic Deville, ORF announced in the broadcast. The prizes will be awarded at the “Stier” event on 5 and 6 May 2023 in Linz. The Salzburg Bull is one of the most traditional prizes of the genre and since 1982 it has been awarded to cabaret artists from Austria, Germany and Switzerland. The “Taurus” will be awarded for the 42nd time in 2023.
