The Philippines region is being haunted by terror shooting. The shooting even killed the Governor of the Oriental Province Negros Roel Degamo.
Governor Degamo’s family confirmed that the governor died from a gunshot wound. The governor was shot at his residence on Saturday morning local time.
Shooting Chronology
Reported by local media, The Manila Times, Saturday (4/3/2023), in a Facebook post, Degamo’s wife, Pamplona Janice Degamo, recounted the moments that happened. The Mayor of Pamplona also said that her husband was declared dead at 11.41 local time.
“The governor did not deserve such a death,” he said.
He said the governor was visiting his constituents on Saturday, along with the head of his department when he was shot by unidentified assailants.
There were five other people who died with him. They are there for help,” said Janice Degamo.
“Give the governor the justice he deserves,” he added.
According to the latest reports from the field, Governor Degamo was talking with some of his constituents in front of his house in Barangay San Isidro, Pamplona city when a group of gunmen who were on top of two SUVs, shot the governor several times and hit other civilians as well.
The Governor and the other victims were immediately rushed to the nearest hospital, but their lives could not be saved.
Perpetrators Allegedly 6 People
Local police said the shooters consisted of six men carrying rifles and wearing uniforms similar to those worn by the armed forces.
Department of Home Affairs and Local Government (DILG) Benjamin “Benhur” Abalos Jr. strongly condemns the assassination of Governor Degamo.
Abalos said he has given directives to the Philippine National Police (PNP) to launch a pursuit operation to quickly arrest the suspects responsible for this crime.
“Negros Oriental Province Police Forces as well as police in neighboring provinces have been deployed to scour every corner of the area to quickly arrest the criminals,” it said in a statement.
