Yuki Kempees has been surprised by the hate messages his fiancee Lizzy van der Ligt received after she was attacked in The Hague last week. That writes the Kris Kross Amsterdam DJ in his column Flair.
“Those who, from an anonymous profile, were so sick in their heads to send that they would have preferred to see her dead, raped or mutilated,” the artist writes. “Those messages have come in and are not an ounce less insane than the actual act of the person who physically attacked my dear friend. But even that I had taken into account.”
In addition to the hate messages, many sweet messages, flowers and even gifts came in. That surprised Kempees in “a very positive way”. “And I saw how with every message Lizzy read, every envelope she opened and every present she unwrapped, her look changed from fearful to tender.”
But what surprised Kempees most was “the countless responses from people who shared that the same thing had happened to them.”
Influencer Van der Ligt said on Sunday that she had been attacked on the street by an unknown man. She sustained injuries to her face. Her injuries were stitched up at the hospital.
