Now HSV needs a promotion miracle!
Only four days after the drama in Sandhausen, when fans and players were already celebrating direct promotion to the Bundesliga, the Hamburgers conceded a 0:3 swatter in the relegation first leg in Stuttgart.
HSV captain Sebastian Schonlau (28) in Sat.1: “Today has nothing to do with the game in Sandhausen.”
While Hamburg was shocked by a last-minute goal from Heidenheim in Regensburg on Sunday, a lightning start caused the Swabians to fall behind.
After just 45 seconds, Mavropanos headed freely from a corner – 1:0 (1st)!
And VfB has great chances to follow suit. Especially by Guirassy! The striker fails only in front of HSV goalkeeper Heuer Fernandes (23rd) and shoots a penalty kick (27th / Reis to Millot).
HSV, on the other hand, remains almost harmless over the 90 minutes, only scoring twice on goal. And falls apart in the second half!
First the ex-Hamburg Vagnoman scored to make it 2-0 (51st), then Guirassy also snapped (54th). 3: 0 – Stuttgart almost saved!
Stuttgart’s Waldemar Anton on “Sat.1.”: “Perhaps we could have scored one or two more goals. We took a step and we have to take the next step next week. We must have exactly the same greed.”
HSV threatens to miss promotion on the fifth attempt. Only last season did the North Germans fail in the relegation to Hertha (1-0, 0-2).
Symbolic of Hamburg’s frustration: Just eight minutes after coming on as a substitute, Suhonen kicked opponent Vagnoman on the thigh. Referee Welz pulls out red (69th).
In the end, the VfB fans chanted: “No more 2nd division!” and “2. League, Hamburg is in!”
Looks like it, unless there is a Hamburg promotion miracle on Monday (8.45 p.m. / Sky and Sat.1)…
