The Shocking Costs of Maintaining Luxury Cars

Yes, car prices have gone up. It’s no secret and it’s very likely if you’ve been looking for a car lately. It doesn’t matter if they are new or used. But how much can we assess the purchase price of a car?

Basically, it depends on the car we choose and its segment. As much as the automobile market has increased, as much by changing the tires of a Bugatti you can buy a Cupra Formentor. Or, if we are more modest, we can take the opportunity to buy a Dacia Duster and a second used vehicle for everyday use. However, emptying leaves us less room for manoeuvre. We can continue to buy a Dacia Duster but if we opt for a Peugeot 2008 we will already exceed the budget. Fortunately, with the budget of a few tires, you can come back from the dealership with a BMW 3 Series.

What are we talking about?

At least that’s the image that has been put forward for servicing a hyper-luxury car such as the Bugatti Veyron. One of the examples is Manny Khoshbin. His resume is enviable: millionaire, car collector and owner of a YouTube channel where you show off your jewelry.

Khoshbin took advantage of one of his videos to explain how much it costs to maintain a car of this type. The millionaire manages the sums like someone who counts at the end of the month how much money the coffees cost him in the middle of the morning. And that the counts must be multiplied by each of the three Bugattis he keeps in his garage.

Mind-boggling numbers

For an oil change, for example, all you have to do is remove the rear wheels, the brakes, the mudguard and some of its trim to access the 16 drain plugs the car has. That’s on top of the $25,000 he said he had to shell out (three years ago) for every oil and fluid change. The rest of the numbers don’t seem so exorbitant anymore. Changing wheels? $38,000. Tire change? $50,000. A simple maintenance that exceeds $100,000 and that Bugatti recommends every 15,000 kilometers or, as is likely to happen, every little more than a year. Khoshbin, however, claims to extend the tire change after two or three years. The four-year maintenance of a Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport is estimated between 340,000 euros and 405,000 euros (excluding taxes).

And Khoshbin a “luck” to have his Bugatti in the garage. If we’re talking astronomical maintenance figures, there are few things like Ferrari’s Corse Clienti programme, arguably its most exclusive package.

Ferrari FXXs are designed solely and exclusively for competition, so they cannot be modified. To give an idea, in 2014 a Ferrari FXX K was worth 2.5 million euros (excl. VAT) and everything you found in your garage was… nothing. Because in addition to receiving the 2.5 million euros, Ferrari keeps the car.

In exchange, Ferrari included with the purchase the maintenance of the car and access for two years to its private championship for customers. A total of 16 prizes spread over four circuits. Of course, with all the logistical support from the brand’s garage, from mechanics and engineers to cooks. That’s good because it is estimated that in addition, each lot in the circuit supposes the disbursement between 10,000 and 15,000 euros.
