The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has accused the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) of distorting Sikh history in its Class 12 Political Science book. The SGPC claims that the NCERT misrepresented historical details related to Sikhs in the book, which has hurt the sentiments of the community. The SGPC has demanded that the NCERT remove these mentions.

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has accused the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) of misrepresenting the historical details related to Sikhs in its Political Science syllabus book of Class 12. SGPC chief Harjinder Singh Dhami said that the NCERT has recorded “misleading information” about the Anandpur Sahib resolution and depicted Sikhs as separatists. He argued that the 1973 resolution had talked about state rights and strengthening the federal structure; hence, it is not justified to portray Sikhs as separatists. Dhami added that changes in curricula are being made according to what suits the incumbent central government, and arbitrary syllabus is being created to eliminate curricula about minorities. The SGPC chief believes the Anandpur Sahib resolution is a historical document that does not contain anything wrong.
